The Boars

Wasn’t really feeling it this week. After a lot of rain, the match was in doubt until mid morning. But we got to the ground in bright sunshine, which boded well. The ground itself was tucked away behind a cricket gym. That marvelous distressed boar lifted my spirits, though.

Eversley & California were promoted to this league this season and are struggling to meet the ground requirements. Something of a family business: the chairman started by fixing a problem with the power in the kiosk so that tea would be available. His daughter plays in the women’s team and was there with her daughter, Fliss. Her husband captains the men’s team.

Now that we have begun winning games again, we would have hoped to win this one. Though we would have hoped to beat Guildford City and managed to go down 3-1. So it was something of a relief to win 2-1. Although the first goal was a penalty, it would have been a clean goal in free play if someone hadn’t decided to give the keeper a hand. Lucky not to be sent off, though this would probably have spoiled the game.

Still trying to pull fewer photos. But failing. Got a few nice ones, I think.
